Curriculum Statement for Music at St. Wilfrid's CofE Primary School
Intent:
At St. Wilfrid's C of E Primary School, our intent for the music curriculum goes beyond the National Curriculum in England. Our intent is to foster a deep appreciation for and engagement with a wide range of music genres that reflects not only the pupil’s own culture, but that of others. We aim to foster a love for music through a three-pronged approach: discover, explore, create. Through our music lessons, we strive to nurture each child's creativity, enabling them to become confident performers and expressive individuals who truly appreciate the power of music.
Implementation:
To achieve our intent, we will provide high-quality music lessons that encourage students to discover new music, explore various artists, and develop confidence in their musical abilities. Our curriculum will also empower students to create and produce their own music, allowing them to express themselves in unique ways whether that is in the form of becoming a budding singer, musician, music producer or music appreciator. By incorporating a diverse range of musical experiences and activities, we aim to spark a lifelong love for music in our students.
Impact:
The impact of our music teaching will be measured through ongoing formative assessments during lessons, as well as the recording of learning progress and final music pieces. We expect to see a tangible improvement in students' confidence levels as they engage with different musical styles and develop their performance skills. Ultimately, we hope that our music curriculum will instil in our students a deep appreciation for music that will stay with them long after their time at St. Wilfrid's C of E Primary School.
