Young Voices 2024
Our St Wilfrid’s choir had the most fantastic day attending the Young Voices performance at the o2 arena in London. They worked hard throughout the Autumn term to learn all of the songs and couldn’t wait to perform alongside 8000 other children! We spent the afternoon rehearsing with the orchestra and watching a number of inspirational music and dance performers. In the evening it was our chance to shine and we performed the incredible show to the audience, we were very proud of our achievement!
‘A Glint of Gold’ – Year 3 and 4 production

Otters and Kingfishers did an amazing job at rehearsing all of their words, dances and song words and performed these on the stage with such confidence, thinking carefully about the roles of their different characters. Hares and Rabbits were a brilliant choir supporting Year 4, singing loudly and clearly. We were so proud of all of their achievements and we know that the audiences that came to watch them were too. Well done Years 3 and 4!

All of the children had a fantastic time exploring a new instrument!

Music lesson performances
Each term, Years 1 - 6 work hard with their music teacher to discover new music, become composers and take part in different musical experiences. Throughout the year, each year group puts together a mini showcase of their learning to perform to their buddy year group classes. Here are some highlights:
Year 1 did a fantastic job at showcasing their learning about rhythm through a partner percussion song and also showed how they can sing with confidence through call and response.
Year 2 were able to follow their peers as conductors and performed a song getting gradually louder and quieter. They also showed how they could follow a steady beat of the drum during their songs and sang beautifully in time with each other.
Year 3 performed a range of songs singing in rounds, following drums beats and using their bodies as percussion.
Year 4 showed off their recorder skills playing carefully in time with each other and closely following the beat of the backing tracks. They made a fantastic recorder band!
Year 5 became a band and played ‘La Bamba’ using many different instruments including the ukulele that they have been learning this year. They also impressed us all when using plastic cups to create large group percussion piece.
Year 6 uses their voices and body percussion to perform a range of different songs, experimenting with rounds and harmonies. Year 6 pupils who learn an instrument were also able to showcase their learning in their performance!
