Our Governors

‘Growing Success, Rooted in Faith’
Our Governors

On behalf of the governors, we would like to welcome you to our school.

School governors are people who want to make a positive contribution to children’s education. Governors are the largest volunteer force in the country and have an important part to play in raising school standards.  Our key functions are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.

  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure that its money is well spent.

  • And as a Church of England School, we establish and promote our distinctive Christian vision to enable pupils and adults to flourish.

St Wilfrid’s has a long and successful history of serving its community.  Governors, staff, parents and pupils all work hard together to ensure that our school lives up to its Christian ethos and that ‘Together we will be our best’.

In May 2019, we had our most recent Ofsted inspection, and this graded the overall effectiveness of the school as GOOD.  Within the inspection Ofsted commented “Governors know the school well and have identified aspects to develop.  They have high expectations for continued improvement and are committed to ensuring that the school provides the best possible education for each pupil in its care.  Governors strike the right balance between being supporting of leaders and providing appropriate challenge.”

In October 2019, our church school inspection (SIAMS) resulted in an overall judgement of GOOD.  Findings included “The governors’ spirituality committee proactively support the headteacher in developing the school and its Christian distinctiveness.”
